Hey Neighbor!

Hey Neighbor!

Jesus said the second greatest thing we can do with our lives, apart from loving God, is to love our neighbors as ourselves.  And we strive to do this - sometimes going to heroic lengths to meet the needs of complete strangers!

But what about our literal neighbors...? The people right next door? Around the block? The house across the street?  Do we know who those people are?  And when it comes down to it - do we really know how to love our neighbors, if we don't even know who they are?

This series will challenge us to go to new, uncomfortable measures to truly get to know those right around us.  Whether you already do this well, or you haven't really tried, we are going to grow together and show love to those around us.

Blessed

Blessed

Did you ever notice how easily our well-being can be displaced? One little thing and were upset, discouraged or frustrated. If I asked you on that day, would you feel blessed?

BEING BLESSED IS A DEEPER AND STRONGER BASIS FOR OUR WELL-BEING.

We are going to be discussing Jesus' teachings. Those teaching keep our lives rock solid, regardless of what happens. Jesus said, "Whoever listens and does what I say will be like a person who builds their house on a rock." It’s as if He is saying your well-being is based on something far more solid than any circumstances.

Believing the Impossible

Believing the Impossible

What seems impossible with us is not impossible with God.  We sure desire for impossible things to happen in our lives and our world, don’t we? Why don’t we see them happening? Perhaps they are already being done and we just aren’t looking for them.

Questions Welcome

Questions Welcome

In school we were all encouraged to raise our hands if we had any questions. Of course, many times we may have felt our questions were stupid. What about the church? What about asking troubling questions from people who follow Jesus? Do you feel comfortable there?

Jesus was never afraid of a good question asked in sincerity.

I believe that we must all come to realize one basic truth in all our questioning: humans do not possess the the answer to their own questions apart from God. Until we realize this we could very well perpetuate that problem and frustrations that prompt all our hard questions

The Gospel

In March we are learning more about the Gospel -- what is its true message?

Every day thousands of messages pour into my head. Messages from the world around me and messages from the world inside my head. There is no way I can consciously process all these messages, let alone the "good" from the "bad"... How about you?

Imperfect

Imperfect

What does it look like to live out the character of Christ, despite being imperfect beings?

We look at ourselves and think, "I'm not perfect." In spite of that, we still try our hardest on our own to make ourselves perfect!  But what does it look like to take our efforts, and put them under Christ?  To live those out, not on our own, but with Him?

What did Jesus mean when He said, "But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect."? (Matthew 5:8)

And what does it look like to experience perfect love, perfect speech, perfect humility?

Greater Things

Greater Things

JESUS CALLED HIS FOLLOWERS TO DO WHAT HE DID - GREATER THINGS.

He said,

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.”  - John 14:12

DO WE REALLY BELIEVE THAT? WHAT ARE EXACTLY ARE THOSE GREATER THINGS?

I believe that God has greater things in store for us. Things he longs for us to do and things we need to get doing. There are two things that can get us off track with greater things. One is lesser things. The church is people who choose to follow Jesus, but its so easy to get sidetracked by things that really don’t matter much. So many want only to be more for their lives but settle for less. They compromise the greatness that God has called people to be.  The other is “better things”. These are things that we think are more worthwhile than what Jesus calls us to do. So many are discontent, they do want greatness but on their own terms. In our pursuit of the things we desire we actually prevent God’s greater things for us and through us. What is more important than what he calls us to? Here is the thing, we are called to image God. You show God’s greatness through your life.

What is they key to greater things? Read John 14 and you will discover one thing Jesus calls his followers to do that distinguishes how great things work themselves out in our lives.

Love Came Down

As we start this Christmas season, we are going to be looking at what it meant for God to send His love to the world in the way that He did.  What great hope, joy, faith and expectancy that was created!

Doing the Stuff

What is the "stuff" that God asked us, as Christians, to do?  Sure, we're supposed to love, give, serve, forgive... But how do we do it?  What does it look like?
